Timber

The use of the correct type of timber is essential for the long term durability of any timber window. We have carried out considerable research on the different factors effecting performance and environmental issues and believe we offer the best compromise. The factors that we have had researched are:

1. The natural durability

2. The ability of the material to take preservatives and coatings (if the coating remains intact the window will last permanently)

3. Lack of knots (knots provide instability and effect micro-porous coatings)

Long life timber windows were traditionally made from redwood heartwood with hardwood sills. Our Casement and Sliding Sash windows are normally made from finger-jointed redwood heartwood. We purchase this directly from Finland with PEFC chain of custody. Our Casement window sills are normally made from finger jointed redwood with a hardwood plant on, and our sliding sash sills are hardwood. If required we can use an FSC hardwood. These finger joints will be seen through the paint.
